By the way, its cultivation is being used by farmers in many states in IndiaIt has been grown on a large scale in parts of Gujarat like Kutch, Navsari and Saurashtra. In Chhattisgarh also many progressive farmers have started its cultivation. In Jagdalpur of Bastar region also some progressive farmers have succeeded in its cultivation. Probably for the first time in Kondagaon “Maa Danteshwari Herbal Farm and Research Center” started its cultivation about two years ago, and initially about 1000 dragon fruit plants were planted by them. At present, a good number of fruits have started coming in it. Speaking to the media, Dr. Rajaram Tripathi, founder of Maa Danteshwari Herbal Farm and Research Center said that it is a matter of pride and happiness not only for Kondagaon but for the entire state, that dragon fruit is being grown in Kondagaon. It is not only excellent in taste and colour, but also medicinalIt is also of excellent quality in terms of properties and nutritional value. Its taste is also unmatched. Dr Tripathi further told that the climate and soil of Bastar is completely suitable for its cultivation. We have proved that successful cultivation of dragon fruit can be done here. Along with the successful cultivation of black pepper on Australian teak trees, mixed cultivation of dragon fruit can also be done successfully in the space between trees. Dragon fruit plant does not require any special care and only once planted gives continuous abundant production and regular big income for twenty five years. Due to being a thorny plant of the cactus class, it is not harassed by insects and there is no fear of ruining this plant by animals. Once planted, with its successful cultivation, farmers can earn additional income from 1 acre to four-five lakh rupees annually without any special additional cost. With the planting of Australian teak, this income can be diploid, multiplied by doing mixed farming with black pepper and medicinal plants. Due to its huge demand, there is no problem in its marketing.
Dr Tripathi has made his fields in Bastar a laboratory, and keeps on exploring new possibilities. The institute established by him “Maa Danteshwari Herbal Farm and Research Center” has given many profitable new crops to the farmers of the country in the last 30 years. Today lakhs of farmers are taking advantage of it. It is also worth mentioning here that their herbal farms and research centers are mainly run by the tribal women of Bastar.
In view of so many benefits of dragon fruit cultivation, the Gujarat government has given a lot of promotion to its cultivation in its state. It is a different matter that today politics is entering every field, so this Gujarat government has decided to change the name of this fruit to ‘Kamalam’. The Government of Gujarat has also applied for a patent for the new naming of this fruit as ‘Kamalam’. It is well known that lotus is also the election symbol of BJP, but it would also be relevant to mention here that the name of BJP’s state office is also Kamalam. However, going beyond the political goals, it is now a matter to be seen that in view of its successful cultivation in Kondagaon, how much cooperation of the district administration and the state government to the campaign of “Maa Danteshwari Herbal Group” to connect other farmers of the area with this profitable farming. Is able to get Because it is certain, its mixed cultivation along with black pepper and medicinal plants can not only make the farmers rich here but can prove to be a game changer for the entire Chhattisgarh state including Bastar.
